Hungarian Doll Project by Sarajo Friedan
Hungarian Doll Project by Sarajo Friedan
$68.00
Sarajo is well known Los Angeles artist and we are so very honored to have her as our November Student Of The Month. We have been talking with Sarajo about this project for months and we are so impressed with the results. Working with fabric is a new medium for her and she couldn't have done a better job. This is the Hungarian Doll Project. Silkscreen on linen (3 colors: white, celery green, natural linen) with hand stitching and embroidery, pocket contains a tiny story, filling is from bamboo fibers. Each doll is unique. The story inside reads: When I was little, my mother and I would visit Eda and Kishain at their cool, dark house on a palm lined street in Los Angeles. Many years before coming to America, these two sisters had lived in the same town in Hungary as my grandparents. After every visit, Eda would give me a beautiful doll, which she rescued from the doll hospital. Each doll was different, but they were always richly dressed in Hungarian folk costumes that Eda made by hand. Dolls are approx. 13" tall. Very limited edition of 25 dolls.
